(Social media, news outlet, BPS newsletter, etc.) Memorandum Agreement New Mission High School (NMHS) is one of the twenty “pilot” schools created by the City of Boston to help improve the educational opportunities for young people in Boston Public Schools. At NMHS we believe that students are better served by a small school environment where students and teachers get to know each other well, and where learning can be personalized to better meet the need of the individual’s learning. New Mission High School is a rigorous and challenging school with high expectations for everyone and a strong support system to help students be successful in life. Our strong and dynamic culture of achievement is built on several policies that may differ from traditional public schools. As a result, we ask that all families commit to the following expectations before deciding to become a part of our community. I, the parent/guardian of the aforementioned student, understand that as a member of the New Mission High School Community I consent to the following: *All incoming Freshmen students who are accepted to New Mission High School are expected to attend a summer orientation as well as attend the NMHS Homework Academy or Extended Day F block on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 pm-3:30 pm for extra support if they are not achieving in their classes at 70% or better. *Upperclassmen who do not maintain a class average of 70% or better are also subject to assignment in the mandatory Extended Day F Block on Tuesday and Thursday or Saturday School for credit recovery. *Families are expected to come to the school for their child’s Portfolio Review twice per year to enjoy the very informative presentation that their child will make with regards to their learning. *New Mission High School has instituted a mandatory Uniform Policy. All New Mission students must wear the school uniform Monday - Thursday. The uniform consists of khaki (tan) bottoms and a plain white-collar shirt. *In addition to the requirements outlined by the Boston Public Schools, students desiring a diploma from New Mission High School must pass 4 years of Portfolio Review, 4 years of Math, Senior Seminar, and a Senior Defense. *As a member of our school community students and or their likeness may appear in printed and electronic materials. Students desiring to opt-out of this imaging may request forms from the main office. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Boston Public Schools and New Mission High School, in accordance with its nondiscrimination policies, does not discriminate in its programs, facilities, or employment or educational opportunities on the basis of race, color, age, criminal record (inquiries only), disability, pregnancy, homelessness, sex/gender, gender identity, religion, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, genetics, or military status, and does not tolerate any form of retaliation, or bias-based intimidation, threat, or harassment that demeans individuals’ dignity or interferes with their ability to learn or work.
